Supranational organizations are the most advanced type of international organizations. Unlike traditional organizations, they have genuine decision-making powers that have been transferred to them by their member states and which they exercise at the place of these states. They develop own policies and enact laws that are binding on the member states and which are often directly applicable. The EU is the prototype of a supranational organization.
