Youth is an important developmental stage that plays a fundamental role in influencing an individual’s emotional, psychological, and social well-being, laying the foundation for their quality of life and mental health in adulthood. This chapter examines the factors that influence the well-being of Turkish youth, focusing on both protective and risk elements. It begins by introducing the concepts of hedonic and eudaimonic well-being, which represent two core approaches to understanding well-being. The chapter then highlights key protective factors, including basic psychological needs, social support, resilience, and meaning in life. These factors enhance well-being by strengthening cognitive, emotional, and social resources. Their theoretical foundations and connections to youth well-being are briefly discussed. Next, the chapter explores risk factors such as low self-esteem, emotion dysregulation, and negative family dynamics, which pose significant challenges to psychological resilience and well-being. The discussion emphasizes why these factors are detrimental and draws on previous research findings to support these claims. The chapter concludes with a summary and practical recommendations for researchers and practitioners aiming to support youth well-being.
