Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a prevalent condition in aging men, characterized by adenoma tissue enlargement leading to lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). This review explores the evolution of BPH treatment modalities, with a focus on transurethral prostate resection (TUR-P) as a cornerstone in urological surgery. While TUR-P has historically been the gold standard, the landscape has shifted with the advent of pharmacotherapy and minimally invasive procedures. Studies show a significant decrease in TUR-P operations, attributed to the rising acceptance and efficacy of alternative treatments. Despite all the innovations in the field of BPH treatment, TUR-P still holds its throne. In fact, the success of newly developed surgical techniques is compared to TUR-P. Like in all surgeries, the efficacy of treatment depends on the surgical technique and experince regardless of its name. Understanding the evolving treatment paradigms in BPH is crucial for optimizing patient care and improving quality of life.
