Blockchain technology has gained considerable attention across various industries, particularly the automotive sector as a promising area. The automotive supply chain is particularly complex, driven by diverse flows of materials, information, and multiple stakeholders. Such complexity brings challenges and opportunities for blockchain integration. This paper systematically reviews 84 academic articles published between 2019 and 2025, focusing exclusively on the use of blockchain technology in the automotive supply chain. This review reveals that blockchain will revolutionize the automotive sector by enabling secure, transparent, immutability data sharing and streamlining transactions across the supply chain. However, the paper also highlights key obstacles that must be tackled for successful implementation, including the high costs, energy consumption associated, week infrastructure and lack of trust among stakeholders. Ultimately, the study underscores the need for automotive industry stakeholders to explore blockchain’s full potential while navigating its challenges.
