After spinal cord injury, patients experience numerous life changes including motor limitations, pain, and challenges with continence, sexuality, fertility, and mental health. ASIA score, indicating the severity of functional deficits immediately after injury, is the best predictor of long-term functional outcome. Modifiable factors outside the acute period that may affect prognosis and patient and family quality of life include rehabilitation, education, and provider and peer support of patient and caregivers.
