Integrating Lightweight Cryptography with Fuzzy C-Means Clustering for Sustainable and Efficient IoT Systems
摘要
The Internet of Things (IoT) is trending these days due to its wide range of applications in various realms through real-time data collection and decision-making. However, IoT devices are resource-constrained, posing challenges related to energy, processing power and memory. Traditional cryptographic techniques, designed further worsen these constraints. Lightweight cryptography (LWC) offers an efficient alternative, ensuring security while minimizing resource consumption. This paper reviews the current literature on LWC algorithms, identifying key areas to enhance the balance between cost, performance, security, and sustainability in IoT applications. This paper further presents an integrated framework combining LWC with Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) clustering, designed to augment the efficiency and sustainability of IoT systems. The integration allows for optimized data processing, minimized cryptographic overhead, and effective resource management. Case studies across various IoT domains demonstrate how the proposed framework would be improving the efficiency and extending the operational lifespan of IoT devices.
