Ready to Repair: Secondhand Electronics in Tanzania
摘要
Where, to whom, and when is electronic waste a waste? This chapter explores these questions by observing the socialities of electronics in Tanzania. I trace electronics as they travel through geographical and social spheres and undergo valuation and valorization. The chapter starts in London, where “waste” devices are shipped to Tanzania. Further, the chapter follows consumer’s logic when acquiring electronics and the repair ecosystem in Tanzania, which challenges the normative notions and assumptions about electronic waste.
