This chapter briefly summarizes the book and asks, given the evidence discussed here, “If one believes in evolution, must one be an atheist?” Conversely, it asks, “If you are a scientist, can you be religious?” Here, I point out that the Catholic Church has reconciled with the theory of evolution, as have the main bodies of most traditional religions. Further, I describe the views of two prominent scientists who maintain strong religious beliefs. I conclude with the view that science does not refute religious compulsions, and religious beliefs do not refute science. They are on different planes of existence, different logical spheres that do not interact. However, I would argue that conflict isn’t necessary. The beauty of biological thought and the evolution of living things over vast distances of time is in itself a wondrous process that should be revered.
