Over recent years (and indeed decades) positive efforts have been made to utilise Crime PreventionCrime Prevention/Reduction Through Environmental DesignCrime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) (CPTEDEnvironmental Elements (of CPTED)) interventions—including Physical Security ‘Target Hardening’ MeasuresPhysical Security ‘Target Hardening’ Measures, Technological Innovations and the Environmental Elements (see Chapter 4) on a vast range of projects across the built environment. The bulk of these relate to residential developments. However, this chapter includes more specialist advice and application - beginning with Domestic Violence Sanctuary Rooms, 'Leaking' culs-de-sac, Alleygating, all the way through to the Pedestrianisation of Town and City Centres, and Counter Terrorism Design.
