Introduction
摘要
Wealth, social power, and fame are the central elements of our mainstream definition of success. However, in their combination, they have serious limitations for both self and society, reason to talk about the “polycrisis of success.” Accumulating material possessions, desiring fame and admiration, and striving for social power lead us into a unilinear tunnel in which there is a high risk to get stuck. The question is how can we get out of this tunnel? The answer can be found in protecting and increasing our “psychological richness.” Recent developments in psychology depict three main roads to well-being: happiness, meaning, and psychological richness. A happy life is characterized by comfort, joy, and security. The main qualities of a meaningful life are purpose, coherence, and productive social relationships. A psychologically rich life is marked by diversity, curiosity, and wisdom. It is more akin to a novel than a fairy tale. It is full of fields of tensions, including oppositions and contradictions. It is a life characterized by a variety of interesting and perspective-changing experiences, complex life narratives, and openness to experience.
