Kerala’s health system resilience during the COVID-19COVID-19 pandemic has been lauded globally. The state’s robust public healthcare system has accelerated the state’s ability to manage disasters effectively by containing the spread of infection. Additionally, a multisectoral action through decentralised healthcare and social participation in the health system preparedness and response has been the core of Kerala’s unique legacy. Nonetheless, the social intermediation and health system responsiveness amidst a disaster can be considered a model for other states to learn from. This chapter will examine the COVID-19COVID-19 response at the local level through an explorative study. The chapter’s central argument will focus on how social brokerage among various stakeholders enabled COVID-19COVID-19 and how it has facilitated the health system to become more resilient. Furthermore, the chapter delves into what are the ways in which different socio-political groups in an institutional set-up have enabled the response to COVID-19COVID-19 at the grassroots level, and their constructive integration into the bottom-up strategies of the health system has paved the way for a better response. Kerala’s resilient communities and health systems stand as exemplars forever and help prepare for future disasters.
