Evaluating Women’s Nutrition and Health Status in Chittur Thathamangalam Municipality, Kerala: A Pathway to Sustainable Public Health
摘要
This study explores the health and well-being of women in Chittur, Palakkad, Kerala, to inform sustainable public health planning. A sample of 450 women from urban areas participated, with data collected through structured interviews and dietary surveys. The analysis highlights significant disparities in health indicators across four spatial zones within the municipality. Findings reveal high prevalence of anemia, suboptimal body mass index (BMI) levels, inadequate physical activity, and limited dietary diversity. Socioeconomic determinants such as income, education, and housing emerged as critical influences on health outcomes. Multivariate analysis identified three core dimensions: Firstly, dietary patterns, health conditions, and socioeconomic influences on women’s well-being; secondly, household infrastructure, dietary habits, and health status among women and finally, nutritional choices, economic disparities, and health outcomes among women. Zone I recorded the highest composite health score, while Zone II faced the most challenges. The study underscores the need for targeted interventions focusing on nutrition, education, and healthcare access to enhance women’s health. It also highlights the importance of integrating geospatial and multivariate methodologies in sustainable public health strategies.
