Climate Change and Public Health Preparedness in Lower-Middle-Income Countries
摘要
Climate changeClimate change significantly impacts public health, particularly in lower-middle-income countries (LMICs), which face heightened vulnerability due to socioeconomic and geographic factors. LMICs often lack adaptive capacity, face extreme weather eventsExtreme weather events, and depend heavily on climate-sensitive sectors like agriculture. Rising temperatures, altered precipitation patterns, and heatwavesHeatwave owing to greenhouse gases, certain types of fuels, and urbanization increase the risks of vector-borne diseasesVector-borne diseases like malaria and dengue, exacerbate heat-related illnesses and threaten food securityFood security, leading to malnutritionMalnutrition. Mental health challenges, such as anxiety and depression, are also emerging concerns, especially in disaster-affected regions. Limited resources, weak health systems, policy gaps, and low community awareness hinder public health preparedness in LMICs. However, innovative solutions and case studies offer hope. To strengthen resilience, LMICs must invest in climate-resilient infrastructure, integrate health and climate policies, engage communities, and foster international collaborations. Addressing these challenges through global solidarity is critical for protecting vulnerable populations and ensuring sustainable development.
