Assessment of the Occurrence and Growth of Pipeline Roughness in Engineering Systems

Fouling of the inner surface of the pipe due to the accumulation of undesirable sedimentary material of various structures and compositions can be identified as one of the problems of pipeline operation for any purpose. This circumstance leads to decrease in the flow section, as a result, a decrease in the supply of energy resources and the occurrence of emergencies. The development of new methods for monitoring the condition of the inner surface of pipelines, forecasting the stages of the process, and timely detection of dangerous areas is a very relevant approach, allowing immediate measures to prevent and eliminate emergencies. This research presents an analysis of methods for calculating the hydraulic resistance coefficient of steel and polyethylene pipelines. The study assessed the effect of the roughness of the inner surface of the pipes on the process of their operation. The study illustrates the results of calculating the degree of corrosion fouling of the inner surface of pipes depending on the service life, an algorithm for assessing the probability of an increase in the roughness of utility pipelines during the service life of the facility is proposed.
