Snow Cover as a Geochemical Indicator of Atmospheric Pollution in the Area of Industrial Enterprises (Usolye-Sibirskoye, Irkutsk Region)
摘要
The study of pollutants migration with atmospheric transport is relevant due to the stressed ecological state in the impact area of a large industrial complex in the town of Usolye-Sibirskoye (Irkutsk Region). The chemical composition of the liquid phase of snow meltwater was analyzed and the dust load was calculated to assess the ecological state of the atmospheric air. The major ionic and trace element compositions were studied. The obtained concentrations of B, Al, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Mo, Cd, U, Hg, and Pb in snow meltwater are increased in relation to regional background values. The spatial distribution of the element concentrations in snowmelt water is not homogeneous and reflects the impact of industrial facilities. Interannual dynamics revealed a decrease in B, V, Cu, As, Sb, U, Hg, and Pb concentrations in snow meltwater of the industrial area, Cr, Fe, Co, Ni, Mo, and Cd concentrations were within the same range. Meanwhile, at local sites, the concentrations of B, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, As, Mo, Cd, and Pb were detected increased in relation to previous studies. A significant decrease in Hg concentrations (51 times) is a consequence of the liquidation operations of the accumulated wastes in the industrial area. During the research period, the thermal power plant is the main source of atmospheric pollution.
