White Shadows: The Path to Awareness
摘要
This piece recounts the author’s journey as a Black mother navigating racialized experiences in undergraduate spaces. I challenge damaging narratives propagated by professors, like the belief that Black families inherently devalue education. In my master’s program, I shifted from a conservative viewpoint to recognizing the systemic structures stacked against Black families. Internalised racism from my upbringing in predominantly white environments influenced my early beliefs. These beliefs were later challenged through enlightenment from advanced critical studies. Personal anecdotes illustrate how these experiences reshaped my approach to motherhood, fostering resilience and growth. This narrative offers insights into race, education, and personal transformation.
