The Black motherscholar is responsible for both the rearing and radical educating of her children. Thus, she often toggles between preparing her children for an unjust world and encouraging them to radically and critically dream of a liberated futurity. This chapter will examine this duality of Black Motherhood by highlighting the role of the radical Black motherscholar. Written in dialogue, this work will reveal the lived experiences of a radical (single) Black motherscholar and her son. This chapter concludes with an homage to all Black mothers and an intentional call to honor the role of the radical Black motherscholar.
