A Social Perspective on Hybrid Learning
摘要
The hybrid learning mode is a learning situation where both remote and in-person students are mixed when they attend classes and lectures, participate in discussions, and collaborate on projects in small groups. This specific learning situation requires a pedagogy that considers its characteristics such as its dependency on technology mediated communication to connect remote students with in-person students and the teacher. Consequently, this pedagogy must ensure that learning transactions are effectively conducted through rich communication tools and that all students remain engaged in class activities. This chapter emphasizes that the social presence of remote and in-person students and teachers and feelings of telepresence of remote students are crucial in achieving this goal. Therefore, certain levels of social presence and telepresence should be ensured so that in-person students perceive remote students as part of the classroom, and remote students feel integrated and connected with their in-person peers and the classroom environment. Suggestions are presented for how to do this.
