SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
摘要
This chapter focuses on Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG11) on sustainable urban development with focus on; Inclusiveness Safety and Sustainability, and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). Urban and disaster risk management are important areas through which the development of cities that can sustain robust economic and social structures and are capable of recovering from risks resulting from natural and manmade factors can be achieved. As such, this comprehensive study seeks to discuss the need to incorporate DRR into urban planning and development processes, with focus on education mostly in civil engineering courses and programs in producing competent professionals in this regard. With the inclusion of DRR in the civil engineering study program the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest is already on the right track to producing professionals capable of tackling the dynamics of population growth and its related hazards, namely disasters. This paper demonstrates that positive results in advancing Goal 4 and promoting sustainable development can be obtained by implementing a long-term, multifaceted strategy in the education system. The conclusions developed in this paper will be helpful for educators, policymakers, and practicing professionals interested in achieving sustainable and resilient development of urban territories all over the world.
