Not all modern diagrams are preoccupied with representing quantitative data. Some are still used as spatial representations of abstract theories, connections, and categorizations, as was the case before the quantitative revolution. In their modern forms they have sometimes incorporated quantitative elements. In these new diagrams, the connecting elements not only link items in static trees of categorization, but dynamically illustrate change, the flow of time, and causality.
