摘要
In this concluding part of the book, Chap. 10 , Section “The History of Diagrams and the Waves of Knowledge” discusses the relationship between diagrams and the great waves of knowledge transmission in human history. Chapter 10 , Section “Paradigmatic Shifts in Geometry, Philosophy, and Technology is concerned with how diagrams have been affected by major shifts in philosophy, geometry, and technologies of image production. The analysis focuses on how new diagrammatic forms have developed in interplay with preexisting historical conventions around diagrams and in conformity with cultural, primary, and innate principles of spatial cognition. Chapter 10 , Section “History, Science, and Cognition” reflects on what historical studies can contribute to the cognitive sciences and a discussion on the relationship between diagrammatic thinking and historical change. This final chapter ends with a discussion of how our preference for certain spatial models affects our worldviews, and why we can benefit from awareness of this fact.
