In recent years, there has been growing speculation about dissatisfaction with traditional religiosity among Turkish youth, particularly those raised in conservative environments, such as Muslim families and schools in Türkiye. This phenomenon has been labeled by some media outlets and religious authorities as a trend toward a “Deistic” conception of God among Turkish adolescents. However, opinions and interpretations on this issue often lack empirical reliability. In light of these developments, this study examines deistic tendencies among young people in Türkiye through the perspectives of teachers and parents. Using semi-structured interviews, the research addresses these claims holistically while considering the developmental stages of youth. Our findings reveal that deism, while a popular discourse, is not widespread among young people in terms of belief. Although this tendency is observed in certain individuals, it does not appear to be a prevalent phenomenon. Thus, it is crucial to consider both individual and social contexts when interpreting young people’s religious attitudes. Finally, belief tendencies during adolescence, as part of faith development, are shaped not only by individual preferences but also by the influences of popular culture and the dynamic nature of this life stage.
