This chapter has been written by the Inaugural Committee for the Asia-Pacific Society for Prevention Research to provide our perspective on the history and status of prevention science in Australia. We comment on the relevance of prevention advances for the regions of the Asia-Pacific where Australia is located. Our reflections are based on our discipline experience in psychology, health promotion (public health), and criminology. In this chapter we focus on prevention research and practice in Australia. However, we also describe how Australian prevention efforts relate to broader public health challenges in the Asia-Pacific region.

摘要

This chapter has been written by the Inaugural Committee for the Asia-Pacific Society for Prevention Research to provide our perspective on the history and status of prevention science in Australia. We comment on the relevance of prevention advances for the regions of the Asia-Pacific where Australia is located. Our reflections are based on our discipline experience in psychology, health promotion (public health), and criminology. In this chapter we focus on prevention research and practice in Australia. However, we also describe how Australian prevention efforts relate to broader public health challenges in the Asia-Pacific region.
