To address the challenges like climate change, poverty, environmental degradation and inequality, etc. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were introduced which serve as a universal blueprint for achieving sustainable, equitable, and inclusive development by 2030. By understanding the importance of SDG, in this introductory chapter, Journey of the SDG is discussed that start from the Stockholm Conference (1972), the Brundtland Report (1987), and the Earth Summit (1992). This review chapter examines the conceptual framing, historical evolution, and policy milestones that led to the adoption of the 2030 Agenda. Assessment on the efforts of the implementation on a global scale, persistent gaps and monitoring frameworks in achieving SDG targets has been done. It also highlights that; the importance of these SDG is not merely for academic and government understanding but must be understood by all individual and consider these as their collective not imposed responsibility. For better future and amendment of SDG, there is need for stronger global cooperation, technological innovation, and flexible governance. Overall, this chapter provides an understanding of the SDGs’ journey and their vital role in shaping a strong and sustainable world.
