Application of GIS Technologies for Analyzing the Water Factor in Territorial Management

The integration of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with hydrological modeling is a crucial advancement in water resource management, particularly in urban areas. This study explores the application of GIS in the preparation of a hydrological model for surface runoff analysis in a small urban catchment area. By utilizing various GIS tools, including Digital Elevation Models (DEM) and land cover data, the study delineates subcatchments, determines surface runoff directions, and interpolates precipitation data. The analysis highlights the importance of combining GIS with specialized software for tasks like interpolation and vectorization, especially in smaller, built-up areas where accuracy is paramount. The results show that impervious surfaces cover a majority of the subcatchment areas, influencing runoff conditions. This work discusses the challenges of modeling urban hydrology and emphasizes the need for a multi-tool approach to achieve precise results. It also considers the potential role of artificial intelligence in enhancing the accuracy of hydrological forecasts. The findings underscore the significance of continuous development in GIS-based techniques and the need for researchers to adapt to rapidly changing environmental conditions and technological advancements.
