The contribution presents the essence of the concept of «economic freedom of the country from the government», the methodology for determining the level of economic freedom of the country from the government by the leading research institute of the Heritage Foundation of the USA. The assessment of the economic freedom of the country by the research institute of the Heritage Foundation of the USA is carried out in the interests of transnational corporations seeking to create a «global economy without borders», as well as in the interests of the US government. Based on the study of data published by the research institute of the Heritage Foundation of the USA, the author came to the conclusion that those countries that have significant debts to international financial organizations and transnational corporations are considered by the Heritage Foundation of the USA as economically free countries. As an alternative concept of economic freedom of the country» from the government, the author proposed the concept of «economic independence of the country».
