The Russia’s transition to innovation-oriented economic growth and the strengthening of the role of technology as a factor in the development of the economy and social sphere may lead to a decrease in environmental safety. In this regard, the study of regional aspects of the greening of innovation processes is relevant, since the adversely affecting social and environmental trends of recent decades are expressed in risk factors in the regions of the country and a decrease in the negative effect of their interaction, which is a basis for environmental policy and stable economic and environmental development of the federal subjects. Innovative solutions aimed at achieving the ultimate goal are called environmental innovations, and the existing trends to increase their quantity and quality are interpreted as a manifestation of a single process of greening innovative activities. The purpose of the study is to develop a methodology for an integrated approach to assessing the environmental aspect of enterprise innovations using the example of the regions of the Volga Federal District (VFD). Based on the integral indicator and its components, the ratings of subjects are determined and the types of regions are identified by the level of greening of innovative activities of enterprises. Typological grouping according to the integral indicator of greening of innovations revealed regions in which it is necessary to increase the share of enterprises using innovations in their activities aimed at solving environmental problems and which need support from regional government and administrative bodies.
