At this juncture in the book, I concern myself with the second of the three layers of religious consciousness: the concrete representation of divinity. This comprises the for-itself (für-sich) moment of religious consciousness. In striving to align itself with the in-itself (an-sich) moment of religious consciousness, the for-itself dimension induces an inward-facing, historico-logical movement, which opens onto the outward-facing, historico-logical transitions across configurations of religious consciousness. Prior to unraveling the nitty-gritty elements of this odyssey of religious consciousness at the level of concrete representation, I commence with an elaboration and indictment of the extant scholarly presuppositions concerning Hegel’s construction of concrete representation. Posterior to the in-depth unfolding of concrete representational phenomenology, I finish the chapter with a positing and expositing of the thesis that Hegel retains an open-ended phenomenology via the future-oriented continuation of Christian concrete representations.

Hegel’s Phenomenology of Religion as Phenomenology of Concrete Representations

摘要
