During the last week in February 1988, the Uncle Silas production that Sheila McWade was in performed at the Hawk’s Well Theatre in Sligo. On the first night of the show, a friend told McWade that she saw Dermot Healy that day and that Molloy would be in Sligo the next evening. The Ceasars were still hoping that Molloy might be able to come up with a workable playscript. When McWade met Molloy, Molloy promised that she would have a script soon. In March, Molloy took the train from Sligo to Dublin to supposedly meet with a director at the Abbey Theatre. Nothing came of it. During the summer Molloy’s children, now teenagers, spent a few weeks with her and Healy at Rosses Point. Mary was attending Yeats Summer School in nearby Sligo. The Northern Irish poet Seamus Heaney, who was one of the Yeats Summer School presenters, was supportive of Mary and friendly with Molloy. As the end of August rolled around, Molloy dreaded her return to England where she would have to teach an Arvon course at Lumb Bank with Barry Unsworth.
