This chapter extends the conversation to decolonial theory, arguing that AI can replicate colonial-era power structures by centering Western norms, data sources, and taxonomies. Decolonizing AI entails collaborative data sovereignty, governance frameworks that prioritize indigenous and marginalized voices, and the adoption of pluralistic epistemologies. Through real-world case studies—such as indigenous language revitalization and digital repatriation—the chapter shows how technology can shift from an instrument of neo-colonial dynamics to a medium of cultural resurgence and equitable knowledge-sharing.
