It reviews key principles—transparency, explainability, fairness, and accountability—and frames them as evolving, relational concepts. The chapter rejects one-size-fits-all metrics, emphasizing that fairness evolves over time and across cultural contexts. It urges a participatory design process, calling for collaboration with historians, ethicists, and affected communities. Through multi-layered accountability and flexible oversight, AI systems can align with societal values while adapting to evolving understandings of justice.
