This paper provides a fundamental and detailed description of the concepts of credit history and credit scores, which are essential for understanding the research process in the field of credit granting and constitute a practical tool for achieving financial inclusion of individuals based on their sociodemographic characteristics. In addition, a bibliographic review is conducted to understand the evolution of this financial sector and its current trends in Ecuador. Using a quantitative methodology, a brief descriptive analysis of the main variables of interest is conducted. This analysis contextualizes the current state of the research field and its evolution to what it is today. It is suggested that future research explore other variables to improve the performance of scorecard models.
