Geopolitical events, such as wars, political instability, and trade tensions, can significantly impact investment portfolios, necessitating effective risk management strategies. This study focused on understanding the extent of investor concern about geopolitical events, the perceived effectiveness of diversification in mitigating these risks, and the common diversification strategies employed. A mixed-methods approach was employed, involving both quantitative and qualitative data collection. A survey conducted among the Indian investors served as the primary data source, capturing their perceptions, strategies, and decision-making processes. The study examined various aspects such as the effectiveness of international and geographical diversification, the frequency of portfolio adjustments in response to geopolitical developments, and the role of financial advisors in guiding investment decisions. The key findings indicate that most Indian investors are indeed concerned about geopolitical risks and are proactive in managing these risks through various diversification strategies. Geographical and asset class diversification emerged as particularly effective strategies, with a strong preference for developed markets due to perceived stability. The role of financial advisors and the influence of media were also found to be critical in shaping investors’ decisions.
