Integrating AI and Sustainability to Improve Employee Stickiness in Modern Workplaces

This study investigates the effects of combining AI based solutions with sustainability initiatives to increase stickiness of human resources in the modern workplace. For organizations, this means aging workforce retention problems, as traditional approaches to retention are just old school. While applications of AI, like predictive analytics and personalized learning, can be leveraged with sustainability to build a work environment that spark employee engagement, satisfaction, and excitement for the long term, this research investigates what this integration can entail. The approach used was mixed method, quantitative, surveying (n = 300) and qualitative interview (n = 30 with employees and HR professionals from different industries). Using a regression analysis, it was found that there is a very strong positive linear relationship between AI integration and the integration of sustainability practices and employee retention with 78% of the variance in employee stickiness being explained by the integration of these factors. This is further complemented by thematic analysis which reinforces the need for alignment with the organizational value, personalization and innovation to govern employee loyalty. Combining AI with sustainability is good for the employee retention, but also fosters a more supportive and engaging workplace, according to the study. In light of cost, data privacy, and resistance to change, challenges in implementation of these approaches are identified; thereby the need for strategic interventions into these approaches is emphasized. What they found can help organizations keep the best talent and build a sustainable future.
