Thermal Treatment as an Industrial Process to Produce Different Commercial Wood Products
摘要
Thermal treatment of sawn timber is carried out under carefully controlled conditions at high temperatures. In the processing process, only heat, water vapor and fresh water are used without the use of any chemical preparations or additives, which makes it completely ecologically friendly and limited harm to the environment. Albino Pozzi (Italy), Evolen (Croatia) and Sivalbp (France), are three European manufacturers that use high temperature of treatment to increase some properties of wood and preserve the material without using any chemical additive or fossil fuels according to the technology of Italian company Baschild. The positive effects of the high temperature on some wood properties, such as colour or durability, confirm that nowadays the thermal treatment is an important industrial process for commercial products wood in Europe. This contribution describes the experience of Baschild, specializing in the production of kilns for wood thermal modification. The thermally-treated wood products appeared suitable for various applications, including decking, balconies, facades, and similar outdoor projects, minimizing environmental impact.
