This chapter shifts focus from adversity to resilience, exploring the growing evidence base for Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs) and their buffering effects against trauma and later offending. It reviews the conceptual development of PCEs and discusses their measurable impact on health, wellbeing and justice involvement. Drawing on the author’s original research, including the PCE-ACE ratio, the chapter highlights how positive experiences—such as feeling safe, supported and connected—can mitigate harm and build developmental resilience. The chapter also examines gendered differences and mechanisms through which PCEs exert their effects. It concludes with reflections on practice and policy implications for embedding strength-based approaches in justice and social care systems.
