The final chapter positions serious and violent crime as a public health issue, arguing that prevention efforts should be modelled on established public health frameworks. It explores the principles of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention and applies them to trauma-informed violence reduction. Drawing on case studies—particularly from Northern Ireland—it demonstrates how upstream, multi-agency responses can effectively reduce youth violence. The chapter introduces ‘micro public health’ approaches rooted in local communities and cross-sector collaboration. It advocates for evidence-based, population-level strategies that address the root causes of crime and that promote safer, healthier societies.
