A satisfactory and fulfilling home in academia for me had to be one that was intersectional and situated in and beyond science education. Finding this home has been a circuitous and ongoing journey, one that I have come to understand as navigating the interstices of multiple disciplines and communities. This process of both abiding by and rejecting traditional boundaries and identities in academia aligns, in part, with Homi Bhabha’s (2015) post-colonial theoretical perspective of cultural hybridity and interstitiality. In this chapter, I draw upon Bhabha to reflect on my experiences and outcomes from an interstitial/ “and” positionality in science education and as a Black female academic.
