Understanding Barriers to Engagement with Music Technology Education for Girls and Gender Diverse Youth
摘要
The pipeline into the audio industries for Girls and Gender Minority Learners (GMGL) is to date not managing to counter the inequities or increase diversity levels—and in this chapter we are interested in what is happening here. Music technology engagement amongst GMGL drops when young people make GCSE choices, and again at the point of applying to study music technology in higher education. Previous research points to a relative lack of confidence amongst girls, and subsequently a lack of understanding on how the social contexts of music technology influences GMGLs.
