This paper focuses on the possibility of replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy sources. The study was conducted for 107 Polish kindergartens, located in Bialystok, in north-eastern Poland, Europe. So far only 10% of kindergartens use PV energy. Those with no PV systems were categorized into 3 types, taking into account the usefulness of the area of the kindergarten’s surroundings for localization of the PV. It was found that 23% of plots enable the location of PV panels without restriction, 32% kindergartens could be supplied from a PV system with limited power. However in the case of 45% plots, it is impossible to install a PV system. In total, it is estimated that it is possible to install about 810 kWp of PV on the kindergarten plots, which will result in a total energy output of 824 MWh per year. For kindergartens with no possibility of location PV on the ground (no own plot, small and fully developed plot) the best solution is to look for possibilities to install PV on the roof or to look into solutions to increase the share of RESs in the city plant that supplies education buildings via municipal power grid.
