The definition of serrated polyposis has changed over the years, and the current version is published in the fifth edition of the WHO Classification of Tumors of the Digestive System, which was released in July 2019. Serrated polyposis is associated with a high risk of colorectal cancer in affected patients and their families, however no single gene has been associated with this risk. In this chapter the etiology of serrated polyposis is discussed.
