How Do You Diagnose Peritonitis? Are Your Methods Foolproof? What Are the Clinical Implications of the Diagnosis?
摘要
Peritonitis means inflammation of the peritoneum, the sheet of serous membrane lining the peritoneal cavity. The symptoms of peritonitis mainly relate to inflammation of the parietal peritoneum, the layer of peritoneum lining the muscular wall of the abdomen. This usually happens because some sort of inflammatory process arising from one of the intra-abdominal organs comes into contact with the parietal peritoneum, or because the process produces an inflammatory fluid within the peritoneal cavity, such as pus, stool, bile, or blood. It’s important to diagnose peritonitis as it’s a surgical emergency. This chapter discusses the diagnosis.
