How Do You Manage a High Ileostomy Output or Diarrhea Due to a Short Bowel?
摘要
Patients who undergo resection or bypass of 100 cm (40 inches) or more of small intestine are at risk of short bowel syndrome, characterized by malabsorption and diarrhea. In addition to targeted therapy such as bile salt resins, Vitamin B12, and a low-fat diet, the patients generally need help controlling the volume of stool they pass. In this chapter, management of short bowel syndrome will be discussed.
