In our time of intersecting global crises, traditional leadership structures in higher education face profound challenges. In this chapter we explore the concept of postdigital educational leadership as a model for higher education leaders to navigate the complexities of what Adam Tooze calls ‘polycrisis’—a continuous state of crisis affecting institutional stability, governance, and mission. By using the metaphor of the borderlands, we reimagine current approaches to digital leadership beyond siloed system functions, instead advocating for a holistic postdigital approach that addresses institutional resilience, adaptability, and crisis preparedness. The postdigital educational leadership model promotes a proactive approach, empowering institutions not only to survive crises but to leverage them as catalysts for innovation and organisational renewal. The chapter also identifies critical leadership traits and behaviours needed to steer higher education toward a post-crisis future, characterised by postdigital resilience, ethical governance, innovation and the capacity for reflective learning. Finally, we argue that effective crisis leadership in higher education can transform crises from threats into opportunities for growth and adaptation.

摘要
