Key Strategies for Effective AI Implementation in Construction Information Management (CIM): Insights from the South African Construction Industry
摘要
Artificial intelligence (AI) in the construction industry, has the capacity to enhance efficiency, improve decision-making, and streamline project management. This study investigates key strategies for the effective implementing of AI in construction information management (CIM) within SACI. To get information on the key strategies, standardized questionnaires were distributed to professionals in Gauteng province, selected through purposive sampling. However, out of 80 randomly distributed questionnaires, 77 (96.25%) were retrieved and found useful for analysis. Data analysis was conducted descriptively, using SPSS version 20, employing mean, standard deviation, and the relative importance index (RII) to assess and rank the importance of each strategy. The validity of the questionnaire, established with a Cronbach’s alpha rating of 0.965, demonstrates high internal consistency. The results reveal that “Reduce Lead Times and Improve Quality” is the most highly prioritised strategy (RII = 86.49%), subsequently, “AI Academic, Research, and Development” (RII = 85.41%), and the joint third-ranked strategies, “Sharing Knowledge of AI Technologies” and “Encourage Early Involvement in Construction Projects” (RII = 84.86%). Other critical strategies include promoting effective communication, optimising work practices for AI integration, and providing financial incentives. These prioritised strategies reflect the industry’s focus on practical support, knowledge dissemination, and stakeholder engagement to facilitate AI adoption in CIM. The result provides vital insights for policymakers and construction professionals aiming to enhance AI readiness and adoption within the South African construction sector.
