An Assessment of Crane Accidents in the Kwazulu-Natal Construction Industry in South Africa

Crane accident is a common occurrence on construction sites. It leads to losses, damages, and delay of time that adversely impact on construction cost. This study aims to assess crane accidents on the kwazulu-natal province construction sites. A quantitative study was conducted. A total of 65 questionnaires was analysed using descriptive statistics. The sample population consist of contractors in the kwazulu-natal construction industry. Simple random sampling techniques was used in the selection of samples. A total of 45 questionnaires were analysis using descriptive statistics. Electronic questionnaire was administered through email. The result of the study includes that the causes of crane accidents are carelessness of the operator, non-compliance with safety measures and tight working conditions. The effect of cane accident are death, shock and fracture. Research limitations/implications (if applicable): If research is reported on in the paper this section must be completed and should include suggestions for future research and any identified limitations in the research process. The inculcation in practice safety management, engaging workers that are certified and working in a good and organized working environment. This study is specific to KwaZulu-Natal Province in South Africa, this makes it original as no such study have been conducted in KwaZulu-Natal Province in South Africa.
