Assessment is a crucial aspect of the academic process, shaping students’ perceptions, learning attitudes, and career development. Innovation in assessment does not require entirely new methods but rather tailoring existing approaches to suit the module and student experience. This ensures students engage with the task itself rather than relying on preconceived notions of assessment. Innovative assessment strategies provide dynamic ways to evaluate student learning, which occurs through diverse instructional methods inside and outside the classroom. Learning involves acquiring knowledge, developing critical thinking, and applying concepts to real-life situations. This paper explores innovative assessment strategies aimed at enhancing student performance and critical thinking. A qualitative methodology was employed, consisting of a comprehensive literature review of peer-reviewed articles, journals, conference papers, and case studies from databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. Findings suggest that transformative assessment strategies—such as performancebased, formative, and technology-enhanced assessments—foster deeper understanding and practical application of knowledge. Additionally, peer, self, and culturally responsive assessments empower students in their learning journey. Overall, innovative assessments shift the focus from passive testing to active learning, creating an inclusive and meaningful educational experience. The study offers insights for policymakers, researchers, and educators in higher education and vocational training institutions.
