Climate change significantly impacts the mental well-being and psychological resilience of people living along the north coast of Java, Indonesia. This study seeks to explore the effects of climate change on mental health, evaluate community-driven adaptation strategies, and examine the effectiveness of governmental initiatives in strengthening psychological resilience within coastal populations. The research utilized quantitative and qualitative methods, blending survey data with in-depth interviews. This mixed-methods investigation was carried out in five regions identified as high-risk: DKI Jakarta, Tangerang Regency, Cirebon Regency, Demak Regency, and Pasuruan Regency. The survey involved 518 respondents to measure anxiety, stress, and depression using the GAD-7 and PHQ-9, as well as risk perception and social support. In-depth interviews explored daily emotional impacts and perceptions of support from the government. The results reveal that coastal communities face increased levels of anxiety, stress, and depression as a direct consequence of environmental disruptions, including rising sea levels and recurrent flooding. Economic hardship and limited access to mental health services exacerbate these effects. Community adaptation strategies include improving family ties and social solidarity and strengthening positive mindsets. Governments are crucial in tackling climate change by providing mental health support and enhancing community awareness of disaster preparedness. The study concluded that climate change causes significant psychological distress in coastal communities on the North Coast of Java. Mental health support should be integrated into climate adaptation policies and community-based approaches to improve community mental resilience. This study emphasizes the importance of a holistic approach incorporating mental health aspects into climate adaptation policy planning in coastal areas.
