Urbanization is a defining trend in global population dynamics, that creates challenges like harsh and varying urban microclimates. Researchers highlight the impact of rapid urbanization on microclimates as a global concern. Defined by multiple meteorological conditions within city limits, urban microclimate studies are crucial for enhancing well-being and comfort of urban residents. This study develops a comprehensive framework for assessing urban microclimate in Indian cities, involving Delhi as the case study area to analyse and model these influences. In contrast to most existing studies that tend to investigate microclimate in relation to a single, isolated parameter, this study examines the combined influence of multiple parameters, thereby offering a more holistic and nuanced understanding of microclimatic dynamics. The study computes a Microclimate Index, specifically for Delhi, that offers a valuable method to identify microclimate distress zones and project the benefits of proposed interventions. This chapter contributes to the broader discourse on urban resilience by presenting a replicable framework for microclimate assessment in cities, supporting urban planners and policymakers in making evidence-based and informed decisions and developing strategies that address the complex challenges posed by rapid urbanization in the face of climate change.
