The study provides factual support for the sustainable practices that stakeholders in rural tourism have embraced. It examines the idea and definition in this area, the factors that encourage stakeholders in rural tourism to implement them, and suggestions for improving efforts in India. This study outlines an exploratory qualitative research project examining rural tourism stakeholders’ sustainable tourism practices. A methodical strategy was utilized to tackle the study’s goals. This study examines how individuals interpret and engage with activities in this area, exploring their motivations, areas for enhancement, and the perceived significance of these practices. The research methodology involved conducting semi-structured interviews to gather diverse perspectives from participants. The results indicate that sustainable tourism practices significantly impact various aspects: future growth, awareness, knowledge enhancement, conservation efforts, economic benefits, cooperation, environmental protection, and more. It’s noteworthy that the concept of sustainable tourism practices aligns closely with competitive offerings, high-quality attractions, and meeting traveler expectations. This suggests that the definition of sustainable tourism practices encompasses quality tourism and visitor demands in economic, environmental, and sociocultural effects. Government assistance and financial, social, and ecological factors are important forces behind sustainability initiatives. Enhanced collaboration among rural tourism operators, focused efforts on conservation and preservation, highlighting destination uniqueness, promoting long-term growth, and embracing the 3Rs principles (reduce, reuse, recycle) are crucial strategies for advancing sustainable practices in rural tourism. The conclusions point to the need for players in rural tourism to embrace and improve in this area of rural locations and destinations, as well as for sustainable rural tourist destination management. Additionally, it broadens the focus of previously published research on the significance, inspiration, and sustainable tourism practices of rural areas. In India, the relevance in this area is the subject of this study. There hasn’t been much empirical research in this field. From the viewpoints of the rural tourist operators, the research offers a thorough knowledge of the definition and principles behind sustainable operations. It also suggests sensible tactics for sustained rural tourist operations. The advancement and acceptance of these methods owe to critical infrastructure, governmental backing, and individuals’ grasp of sustainable development principles. Lastly, this research offers valuable suggestions for fostering the sustainable expansion of rural tourism.
